Silent Hill 2’s Combat Reveal Trailer hasn’t been well received by fans since its release during PlayStation’s January 2024 State of Play, but developer Bloober Team isn’t to blame, according to studio president Piotr Babieno, who reportedly told inwestyc.tv in a recent (and now removed) interview that Konami was the one “entirely responsible” for it. The new remake, which was originally announced in October 2022 for PS5 and PC, still lacks a release date.

Babieno reportedly said:

  • “…we are not responsible for the marketing side.”
  • “That is entirely the responsibility of our partner [Konami]. Certainly this trailer does not reflect the spirit of the game.”
  • “It is not the spirit of either what it used to be or what we are creating now. We are trying to fully reflect this romantic vision about the game, which debuted 22 years ago.”
  • “We think that when players see the real gameplay, the real game, they will judge it in a completely different way.”

The trailer in question:

Critics and fans are saying:

  • “I don’t think I can survive another Silent Hill game ending up cancelled, I’m not that strong”
  • “Konami has done this before with Shattered Memories, marketing it as a hardcore survival horror game even though the devs clearly stated multiple times that it’s much more casual in terms of horror.”
  • “Always sad times for Silent Hill fans. Always great times for Resident Evil fans. Nothing has changed.”
  • “The nurse vaulting over the wall like it’s a tactical shooter is hilarious.”
  • “Is it me or does this game feel more like a fan game made on Unreal 5?”
