Nintendo has sued Yuzu, one of the world’s most popular Nintendo Switch emulators, for allowing users to play pirated Switch games on Linux, Android, and Windows PCs. Those would include The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which was downloaded “over one million times” before its release on May 12, 2023, according to Nintendo’s legal team.

Nintendo on Tears of the Kingdom and how Yuzu was allegedly a driving force behind its piracy:

…The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, was unlawfully distributed a week and a half before its release by Nintendo. Infringing copies of the game that circulated online were able to be played in Yuzu, and those copies were successfully downloaded from pirate websites over one million times before the game was published and made available for lawful purchase by Nintendo. Many of the pirate websites specifically noted the ability to play the game file in Yuzu.

Critics say:

  • “do they know yuzu isn’t the only emulator out there”
  • “Oh my god Nintendo you absolute disgrace”
  • “PC gamers in shambles”
  • “in appear the Nintendo simps defending a poor 1 billion+ dollar corporation…”
