Fans curious about the next chapter of Senua’s underworld travels have some new tidbits to view as Ninja Theory shows off some new screenshots. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II has been developed using Unreal Engine 5 and if these early screenshots are any indication, then fans of the first game are likely to be in for a visual treat with the next installment. The screenshots were taken using the game’s photo mode which means that in-game visuals could be even more impressive since not all post-processing effects are not always captured with such tools.

Per Ninja Theory:

“Photo mode returns in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. Here are some shots we took purely using photo mode in-game this week.”

Even as Ninja Theory shows off these images fans only have a couple of months until Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II launches for PC (via Steam) and Xbox X|S on May 21 for $49.99.

From Independent Studio to Xbox Game Studios

It was back in January when the developer revealed the release date but also added how Ninja Theory has grown to become a member of Xbox Game Studios. It was then that the developer announced that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II would be a digital-only release but emphasized how joining Xbox Game Studios gave it more support for creating the next game.

“Since the release of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Ninja Theory has transitioned from being an independent team to one that sits within Xbox Game Studios. Although this has seen change for Ninja Theory, particularly in terms of the support now available to us for striving towards our ambitions, what has not changed is our passion and commitment to our studio mission – to craft life-changing art with game-changing tech.

This might sound like a lofty mission, but it is something we are proud to have achieved before in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice – a game built in a space we called ‘Independent AAA’, where we worked with the creative spirit and freedom of independent development but strove for the types of high-end production values often only associated with AAA games. We also took advantage of the freedom that digital-only distribution offered us to create a game of the length that fits perfectly with our intended experience but could be sold at a lower price to reflect the shorter length of our story. This framework allowed us to focus on the things we really care about – taking our fans on an unforgettable journey into Senua’s unique world.”

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
