Alpha Protocol, developer Obsidian Entertainment and publisher Sega’s 2010 sci-fi action RPG, is now available for PC players to purchase again thanks to the team at GOG, having secured the game for launch today on its DRM-free storefront with an introductory discount. The PC version of this game was pulled from Steam in 2019 due to some of its soundtracks, whose rights had expired.

Highlights of the GOG version, which contains both additional and returning features:

  • Licensed soundtrack
  • Achievements support
  • Full controller support (e.g., DualShock 4)
  • Localization support (8 languages)
  • Compatibility with modern operating systems
  • Cloud saves support

Players are saying:

  • “This is as good of a James Bond RPG game we will ever get.”
  • “Go in knowing the combat sucks, the minigames suck, the art direction looks ripped from one of those scam mobile game ads on YouTube. But also go in knowing that you’re playing something truly unique and ambitious.”
  • “Gameplay is a bit mediocre, but the conversations, the story, the characters…. the level is crazy in those aspects.”
  • “Pirating this game has been the only way for new players to play it. This game is unique, and should be played by anyone interested in game design.”

Description and launch trailer:

Loyalty carries a price and no one knows this more than agent Michael Thorton. A talented young agent cast out by his government, Thorton is the only one with the information needed to stop an impending international catastrophe. To do so means he must cut himself off from the very people he is sworn to protect. As players determine how to accomplish different objectives, the decisions made and actions taken in each mission will ultimately transform the type of secret agent Michael Thorton will become. Every choice the player makes as Michael Thorton will carry consequences for his future and the fate of the world.
