The Rogue Prince of Persia, a new roguelite game based on Ubisoft and Jordan Mechner’s action-adventure franchise, will be released on Steam as an Early Access title on Tuesday, May 14, industry insiders have learned. Evil Empire, one of the developers behind 2018’s Dead Cells, is responsible for the title, which is said to be Ubisoft’s first day-one Steam release since 2019.

Release timing, per Tom Henderson:

Insider Gaming on the new game:

  • “Sources say the Rogue Prince of Persia is a new Roguelite that will receive constant free updates and evolve over time based on community feedback.”
  • “…the game has been in development for the past four years and happened thanks to a discussion between Evil Empire and Ubisoft at GDC around 2019, soon after Evil Empire was born.”
  • “The game is set to take its art direction inspiration heavily from Franco-Belgian comics.”
  • “It was announced on February 9, 2024, that Motion Twin would stop creating content for Dead Cells and that Evil Empire, the studio responsible for post-launch support of the game would be moving on to other projects.”

What the game might look like:

Ubisoft on its other Prince of Persia project, which last received an update in November 2023:

20 years ago, one of the most heroic tales in video games was released: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. As you know, the passionate team at Ubisoft Montreal is reimagining this legendary story, and we are glad to announce today that the project has passed an important internal milestone and development is progressing.
