Max, the subscription streaming service developed and managed by media conglomerate Warner Bros. Discovery, is expected to see an increase in pricing, according to a new report today that discusses how the company is planning fresh cost cuts in order to hit its latest financial targets, including those affecting its streaming platform, previously known as HBO Max. Max launched its first price hike in January 2023, the same month that The Last of Us, the critically acclaimed series based on Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic game franchise, began streaming for subscribers.

  • “It seeks to reach $1 billion in earnings from the Max and Discovery+ streaming services next year.”
  • “Warner Bros. [also] plans to consolidate some of the marketing and technology teams working on its streaming services.”
  • “They include the possibility of more layoffs at the company, which has eliminated more than 2,000 positions over the past year.”

Max’s current plans include:

  • With ads ($9.99/month)
    • Stream on 2 devices at once
    • Full HD video resolution
  • Ad-Free ($15.99/month)
