Overclocking XFX Mercury Radeon RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air
In the screenshot above you will see what our highest stable overclock settings were on the XFX Mercury Radeon RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air video card. We were able to increase the Power Limit by 15%. Though we were able to increase fan speeds, we did not have to for our overclocking adventures, leaving them on automatic worked just fine.
On the sliders, we managed to hit a Min Frequency of 3100MHz and a Max Frequency of 3200MHz. These are the highest settings we’ve ever set for overclocking on a Radeon RX 7900 XTX video card. For what this translates to in real-world gaming frequency, look at the graph below and we’ll discuss it.
On the memory front, we managed to push the memory from 20Gbps at default up to 2718MHz x8 which gives us 21.744Gbps or roughly 21.750Gbps. We did have to keep it under 22Gbps, we found that at 22Gbps it crashed a bit in games, but at 21.744Gbps it worked flawlessly and provided a performance uplift. At this memory overclock this increases the memory bandwidth to 1,043GB/s over 960GB/s by default. This is the highest memory overclock we’ve also ever achieved on a Radeon RX 7900 XTX.

In the graph above, you can see the default clock speed out-of-the-box of the XFX Mercury Radeon RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air and then the overclocked frequency in orange. The default frequency of the XFX Mercury Radeon RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air has a boost clock of 2615MHz. At default, the XFX Mercury Radeon RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air is running between 2620MHz-2680MHz in long duration, meaning it is boosting over the boost clock by default, which is a very high factory overclock that isn’t being throttled. The average default clock speed was: 2666MHz default clock speed.
With the XFX Mercury Radeon RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air overclocked as shown in the screenshot above, we can see that this boosts the real-world gaming frequency between 2740MHz-2800MHz for long-duration gaming. The average overclocked clock speed was: 2789MHz overclocked. Therefore, the overclock provides a 123MHz average overclock on frequency. While this seems “small”, the key fact to remember is that out-of-the-box the XFX Mercury Radeon RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air is already boosting much higher than a reference video card, and we will show that in a graph below. The baseline that this video card starts at is high, and therefore achieving an overclocked clock speed of 2800MHz is pretty impressive for the Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU.

In this GPU Frequency Comparison, we can see the XFX Mercury Radeon RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air (orange line) compared to a reference AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX (blue line) which has a boost clock of 2500MHz. The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX hits between 2520MHz-2580MHz with an average of 2547MHz. Therefore the XFX Mercury Radeon RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air by default is boosting 5% above the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX with its default factory overclock to begin with. Therefore, if we compare the overclock on the XFX Mercury Radeon RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air it is 10% higher than the Radeon RX 7900 XTX reference video card.
