Panel Protect, one of the six features that MSI has implemented for OLED Care to combat burn-in on its premium gaming monitors, should be run every four hours if possible to help prevent image retention and maintain the health of the panel, MSI has advised in a new article that offers several essential tips on how customers can prevent burn-in on its QD-OLED displays, the current lineup of which includes the MPG 491CQP and MAG 321UPX. The feature, which is essentially MSI’s name for pixel refresh, runs automatically but can be delayed until 16 hours of usage, after which the function will be forced to run automatically, according to an article that the company shared earlier this year.

MSI’s OLED Care features include:

  • Panel Protect / Notice
  • Pixel Shift
  • Static Screen / Multi Logo Detection
  • Taskbar Detection
  • Boundary Detection

MSI on its Panel Protect feature:

One of the important functions is Panel Protect. Although some may not like it, Panel Protect is essential for maintaining OLED monitors. With MSI settings, you can delay Panel Protect until 16 hours of usage. Panel Protect will run automatically every 4 hours of use when you turn off the monitor or put it in standby mode. We recommend setting the Panel Notice to activate after 16 hours of usage to avoid interruptions during busy work periods. However, if you are available, we suggest running Panel Protect every 4 hours.
