Photo Mode, a new feature to the Dragon Age franchise that will be debuting with the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard in October, was directly inspired by Mass Effect Legendary Edition, a remastered collection of BioWare’s critically acclaimed trilogy of sci-fi RPGs that was released in 2021, according to new comments shared by game director Corinne Busche. Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which advertises several improvements to the original games (i.e., Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3), including updated textures, new controls, and even shortened elevator times, remains available for PS4, Xbox One, and Windows PCs.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s photo mode will offer these options:
- “Free-roaming camera, tilt, focal length, and lens distortion.”
- “Depth of Field, Auto Focus, Distance.”
- “F-Stop, which lets you control the lighting.”
- “Vignette mode, which darkens the edge of the screen and gives it a more cinematic look.
- Bloom strength.”
- “Saturation, brightness, and contrast.”
- “The ability to hide the player, the party, enemies, or NPCs.”
Busche on its inspiration:
- “Not only did [Mass Effect: Legendary Edition producer Brenon Holmes] drive this feature, he did a lot of the work to support it.”
- “What I really like is the tab that lets you hide various characters. So hide character, hide party, hide enemies, hide NPCs.”
- “You can really curate the shot to your liking…You might be mid-fight with a dragon, but there’s a character in the way, so you can clear them out.”
A deep dive that BioWare shared last week:
EA on BioWare’s new game:
In Dragon Age: The Veilguard , players will step into the role of Rook, a fully-customizable protagonist who must rise up, unite their crew and become the hero Thedas needs in a time where legends are born or slain. Joining Rook in their fight against corrupt Elven gods is a cast of seven compelling companions, each of whom hails from an iconic faction from Dragon Age lore. In addition to their own personal storylines and motivations, companions Bellara, Davrin, Emmrich, Harding, Lucanis, Neve and Taash all bring unique combat abilities and equipment to the fray, which Rook must strategically implement in their fight for the future of Thedas.
