Battlefield 6, a new installment in EA’s military first-person shooter series that is currently being developed by what has confirmed to be four studios, including DICE, Criterion Games, Motive, and Ripple Effect, is expected to launch with several features, including 45 different weapons, 10 multiplayer maps, and a campaign mode that centers around a private military group going up against NATO—the intergovernmental military alliance of 32 member states that counts the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom among its members—according to new information for the game that has surfaced online. The new game, which may simply be called “Battlefield,” is said to take place in the modern era, sometime between 2027 and 2030, with Gibraltar being one of the locations that players will be able to visit.

From a report:

  • “…the game will take place somewhere between 2027 and 2030, with the campaign focused on a massive private military going up against NATO.”
  • “The game will be set in various locations worldwide, including Gibraltar (as seen in the game’s first released concept art) and the USA, which is also believed to be the setting for the Battle Royale experience (tropical location).”
  • “The aim is currently for 45 different weapons on launch, double that of what Battlefield 2042’s core multiplayer experience launched with.”
  • “In addition, the goal is for around 10 multiplayer maps, putting it in line with the likes of Battlefield 1, 3, and 4.”
  • “The game will also see a significant overhaul to its destruction…the game would have caliber-based destruction, akin to Rainbow 6 Siege, with different calibers causing different amounts of destruction.”
  • “…the game will see some changes to movement, with one example given by multiple sources the ability to pick up and move downed players.”
  • “Over the past year or so, the team has been carrying out mass surveys (some of the biggest I’ve heard about), with participants voting on which game name they prefer: Battlefield or Battlefield 6.”

EA’s Vince Zampella on whether the latest Battlefield might be able to outsell Call of Duty:

If you look at the best Battlefields have outsold some Call of Duties and other way around, back and forth. So I think absolutely it can. I mean, is that what we’re going for? I mean, not directly, but always. We’re not looking to take down Call of Duty. We’re making something that’s different and we’re making something that’s us. But yeah, it definitely has the possibility.
