The PlayStation 6, a next-generation video game console that is currently in early development at Sony Interactive Entertainment, featuring a chip design from AMD, may be released in two variants, similar to what Microsoft has been doing with its Xbox Series X|S consoles, according to new information shared by Kepler, a reputable insider who is best known for his hardware leaks. Kepler, who made an appearance on NeoGAF today, mentioned that there are two SoCs in development for the PS6, leading the community to wager whether the new system will be a “Series X|S situation” or, alternatively, a console/handheld release.
Kepler said:
- “There’s two SoCs in development for next-gen.”
- “…idk if it’s a Series X/S situation or home console + handheld, but probably one of them will be affordable at least.”
- “Yes the two SoCs I mentioned in that thread are for PS6.”
As for the performance for the PS5 Pro:
7700 XT-ish in raster, faster in RT.

Jim Ryan (former CEO and chair of Sony Interactive Entertainment) told AV Watch in 2020:
One thing that can be said is that if you look at the history of the game business, creating a special low priced, reduced spec console is something that has not had great results in the past. We’ve considered that option and seen other executives who have attempted this discover how problematic it is.
Based on our research, it’s clear that people who buy a game console want to continue using it for four, five, six or even seven years. They want to believe they have bought something that is future-proofed and not going to be outdated in two-to-three years.
