Mass Effect, the military sci-fi media franchise that BioWare launched in November 2007 with its titular and critically acclaimed action RPG before releasing several sequels, including Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, and Mass Effect: Andromeda, may be getting the live-action treatment, according to a new report that explains how a Mass Effect TV series is officially in development at Amazon MGM Studios, the television production and distribution studio owned by Amazon. Daniel Casey, the screenwriter behind F9: The Fast Saga, is said to be writing and executive producing the adaptation, although plot details remain unknown at this time. BioWare had no comment for the show in its blog post for N7 Day today, stating that it’s “purposefully keeping things lighter” to avoid drawing attention away from Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

It was previously reported in 2021 that Amazon was in negotiations to develop a “Mass Effect” TV series, but there have been no updates on the project until now. There had also been various attempts to develop a feature film based on the games but the project never materialized.

Casey most recently worked on the screenplay for “F9: The Fast Saga.” He is also known for his work on films like the sci-fi drama “Kin” and did rewrites on “10 Cloverfield Lane.” He is repped by CAA, Writ Large, and Hansen Jacobson.

I don't either. I think the only way this could work is if it's a new story set in the Mass Effect universe. That said, after Rings of Power and given the state of Hollywood entertainment in general, I don't have faith in them.

First Contact War - plenty of easy material, maybe have Anderson as the focus.

But writing hasn't been a strong suit lately for anyone...

I'm not sure why everyone brings up the First Contact Wars like that's the given that everything should focus on. It's come up for prequel ideas and other games, and I just don't get that.

There is less than .1% chance it will be a direct adaptation of the story from the games. Holywood writers hate 1 : 1 adaptations because they want to leave their own skidmarks on everything they touch.

Let's be real, in the current day I expect Cerberus will be huwite supremacist yatzis, comically evil and stupid be the main villains. Reapers
won't even appear because they deem general audiences too stupid to comprehend them.

To be honest, I think it would be perfectly fine not do Shepard's story in the TV show and feature another protagonist and another story set in that universe.

Would definitely be safer, given that there are significant player choices that reverberate through the series. Honestly I think they'd be better off just not even going there.

I agree. People have way too much of a personal connection with Shepard in that people who played the trilogy all have their own version of that character. Anything that doesn't measure up to the players vision for the character will be met with criticism. Not only that, but given that everyone's version of the character is different, its impossible to please everyone with a version we'd all agree on.

Yeah, significant choice like Red Blue and Green :D

But seriously most choices in the game only affect if a side character will have a cameo in the next game.
