The 3DMark DirectStorage feature test, a new test that was designed to help PC gamers understand the potential performance benefits of Microsoft’s DirectStorage technology, is now available as a free update for the 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC, UL Solutions has announced. UL, which shared the news on its website today, also announced that new soundtracks have been added to 3DMark’s Speed Way, Wild Life, and Wild Life Extreme Benchmarks, which can be enabled via the audio toggle on the benchmark page. See below for some screenshots that UL shared for its new DirectStorage feature test, including one that involves an ASUS PRIME X670-P WIFI motherboard equipped with a Samsung SSD 980 PRO NVMe SSD.

This test simulates a near-best-case scenario for a DirectStorage implementation, where asset loading is not impacted by other variables such as the game’s asset management system or other tasks being performed by the GPU. This means you can see a demonstration of the near-maximum potential performance benefits enabling DirectStorage could have for a system.
