Power – Temp – GPU Clock Frequency

Power

The TDP of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 FE is 360W. In our testing, we hit about 357W on board power, in our test. In the same test, this puts the power draw definitely higher than the GeForce RTX 4080 Super FE by about 17%, or on par with the power draw of the Radeon RX 7900 XTX. It does use 17% less power than the GeForce RTX 4090 FE.

Temperature

Interestingly, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 FE was the hottest running GPU according to the GPU Temp in GPU-Z. It hit 71.4, which is on par with the temperature of the larger and much faster GeForce RTX 4090 FE. It’s much warmer than the 65c of the GeForce RTX 4080 Super FE.

GPU Clock Frequency

The boost clock on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 FE is 2617MHz. According to our real-world in-game GPU frequency test, we are hitting a GPU Boost up to 2760MHz-2790MHz while gaming, so it does boost a bit higher than its boost frequency specification.

SUMMARY

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Founders Edition is NVIDIA's new generation Blackwell architecture at the $999 price point. The GeForce RTX 5080 Founders Edition has an appealing cooling design, that is beautifully designed, and efficient in cooling and size. The GeForce RTX 5080 FE underwhelms in performance and seems a minor uplift over the previous generation at this price point in terms of the gameplay experience delivered. Its redeeming value is providing slightly better performance, at the same price point as the previous generation, and would provide a solid upgrade from generations prior to the GeForce RTX 40 series.
