Test Setup

System Setup Table

We are using an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D for testing. We are using the motherboard’s current default BIOS settings on the latest release BIOS. We have enabled PCI-Express Resizable BAR in the motherboard BIOS. We have enabled EXPO I in the BIOS for the memory. We are using a fresh install of Windows 11 Pro with the latest Windows Updates, including the 24H2 update. We have the latest drivers installed including the latest chipset drivers.  We are using the “Balanced” power profile in Windows Settings, Core Isolation/Memory Integrity (VBS) is Enabled.

NVIDIA provided a press driver for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, and we are using this driver (572.43) on ALL NVIDIA GPUs in this comparison today, same exact driver for all three NVIDIA video cards, all data is freshly obtained on this press driver.

SUMMARY

The MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16G VANGUARD SOC LAUNCH EDITION improves gaming performance with this factory overclocked "SOC" model, giving it an edge over a reference clocked video card. It manages to pull in great power utilization performance and efficiency, and it overclocks extremely well up to 3.2GHz with no fuss. It overclocks easily on auto fans, and stays quiet while gaming, even overclocked. It remains very cool and has incredible cooling and a very solid build. The VANGUARD series from MSI is a striking design. It's value is diminished with pricing and availability, it's enticing, at the right price.

Still my favorite GPU of the RTX 50 series and I sincerely hope that folks can get them as close to MSRP as possible and enjoy all they have to offer. My RTX 4080 SUPER has done nothing but impress me so to see something perform better, and more effeciently is a welcome advance in technology even if its more of a refinement of the node.

That is one thing I'll give MSI credit for. Some of their products come with really cool swag. My laptop came with a plush little red dragon that I've got hanging from a ceiling fan that makes it look like its flying and spins around. Also got a backpack with the same laptop that I still use to this day when I take trips since it's huge and has many pockets/compartments.

I've also got a large mousepad with the MSI dragon breathing fire that looks really cool. I've bought a lot of MSI stuff over the years and some really do have cool swag.

Yea I'm probably going to giver MSI a go on my next refresh. Still remember when they revoked warranty after the fact, on their cards... even if WAS against coin miners. Just rubbed me the wrong way.
