Throughput Benchmarks (SEQ and RND)
CrystalDiskMark
We are using CrystalDiskMark to benchmark sequential and random throughput of read and write performance. For these NVMe SSDs, we are using the NVMe profile in CrystalDiskMark. This tests SEQ1M Q8T1, SEQ128K Q32T1, RND4K Q32T16, and RND4K Q1T1.

When it comes to the sequential read and write performance, the ADATA LEGEND 970 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD does much better and lives up to its rated speeds. The ADATA LEGEND 970 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD model we are reviewing is rated up to 14GB/s read and 10GB/s write. We are absolutely hitting that in our testing here, pulling 14,014MB/s read and 10,402MB/s write, so it is hitting its specified marks. This puts it at a faster sequential read speed than the CORSAIR MP700 PRO, MSI SPATIUM M570 PRO and the last generation ADATA LEGEND 970. On write performance, it does edge out just slightly the ADATA LEGEND 970, but it is slower on write performance than all the other SSDs. At least we are seeing a very big sequential read performance uplift from the ADATA LEGEND 970.

In SEQ128K Q32T1 drops a bit on sequential read performance. It drops from 14GB/s down to just 12.6GB/s of read performance, so there is a degradation in this workload, though it maintains a good sequential write performance. The ADATA LEGEND 970 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD is a big improvement over the previous generation ADATA LEGEND 970 on both read and write sequential performance in this workload. It makes it competitive with the other SSDs on read performance, but a little under on write performance overall, but still above the LEGEND 970.

In RND4K Q32T16 performance the ADATA LEGEND 970 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD does really well! This was quite surprising actually, the ADATA LEGEND 970 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD actually has the highest random read performance at 7.6GB/s of read speed for random, that’s pretty nice! It actually beats the fastest SSD on this graph, the MSI SPATIUM M580 FROZR by 400MB/s. It’s also a nice uplift from the previous generation ADATA LEGEND 970 by 1.2GB/s faster read performance. The one area it does suffer on, though, is the random write performance. The ADATA LEGEND 970 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD does have the lowest random write performance on this graph at 5.4GB/s, which is even slower than the previous generation LEGEND 970.

In RND4K Q1T1 performance, the ADATA LEGEND 970 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD really redeems itself! The ADATA LEGEND 970 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD actually has the highest random 4K Q1T1 read and write performance on this graph surprisingly! It beats the previous generation LEGEND 970 on all counts, straight up the board, and even beats the read and write performance of the fastest drives here.

Using the popular ATTO Disk Benchmark, the ADATA LEGEND 970 PRO 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD is second highest on this graph for read performance at 13GB/s, beating the previous generation by a good margin. It also has faster write performance than the previous LEGEND 970, but compared to the other SSDs that still falls behind all of them according to ATTO.
