Gameplay Performance
In this section, we are comparing performance at 4K (3840×2160) as this is the primary target resolution for the GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 5080 MASTER 16G. We are testing against the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Founders Edition and the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX. In the games used, we select the highest preset.
Alan Wake 2
At 4K, the game is playable with the GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 5080 MASTER 16G. The comparison cards are not playable at the level of 60FPS. The GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 5080 MASTER allows smooth gameplay at the highest settings. We see that the differences are 17% over the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Founders Edition and 13% over the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX. Upscaling will allow all three cards to be more than playable. The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX closes the gap to just 5%. Overclocking adds 6% benefit.
Black Myth: Wukong
At any resolution, this game is very challenging. You can’t expect much here without some help. None of our cards can handle this game without upscaling. For the sake of argument, the GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 5080 MASTER 16G is 25% quicker, but it’s academic. Even with upscaling, only the GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 5080 MASTER 16G can muster a playable result. With that, the difference is 22 and 16%. Overclocking will add 5%.
Cyberpunk 2077
The GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 5080 MASTER is very playable in this title at a good framerate. The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX has a strong showing as well. When upscaled, all three cards are very playable in this difficult title. The GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 5080 MASTER has a 25% advantage over the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and a 36% advantage over the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Founders Edition. The gap closes with upscaling on the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX to 9%. Overclocking will get 6% extra in this game.
Horizon Forbidden West
All three cards are playable in this game, and the results are fairly close. Only 2% separates the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and 15% over the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Founders Edition. The FPS is quite high when upscaled, and the gap widens to 14% above both comparison cards. Overclocking is a very nice 8% gain here.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
This game is a challenge to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Founders Edition and the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, as neither can run at 60FPS. The GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 5080 MASTER is nicely playable and smooth. The advantage here is 24 and 32%. The same holds true with upscaling, however, both comparison cards are now playable, but still behind. Overclocking adds 6%.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl
Another difficult game at 4K resolution. None of the cards is playable. The GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 5080 MASTER is 8% faster than the competition here, but not playable. With upscaling, all the cards show favorable results. The GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 5080 MASTER is up by 24% and 31%. If you overclock, the gain is 5%, and that is the only way we get a playable frame rate without upscaling.
Star Wars Outlaws
4K is not a place any of these video cards likes particularly well. Once again, none of the cards can reach 60FPS without help. The game is pretty challenging graphically, however, and our manual run-through is in a crowded city setting. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Founders Edition is behind by 8%, and the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX by 35%. Upscaling will allow all the cards a real benefit in the game, providing smooth gameplay. Once again, the GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 5080 MASTER is best by 14% and 27%. Overclocking averages a 4% gain in this game.
