Cronos: The New Dawn is an upcoming action RPG where players will face monstrous abominations to save humanity from a horrific future. Set to launch for PC (GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store), and all current-gen consoles (Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2) on September 5, Cronos: The New Dawn has some strong Dead Space vibes to it. From harvesting souls to battling flesh-merging monsters, players will have to be quick if they want to “salvage the past” as they take on the role of “Traveler ND-3576 as she lands in the New Dawn district and is tasked with finding her mysterious Predecessor.”

Bloober Team (Silent Hill 2 Remake, Layers of Fear, Medium, Observer System Redux) has established itself as a studio with a focus on mixing horror and RPG elements set in different worlds and timelines. Cronos: The New Dawn continues this trend with a blend of present Eastern European techno-industrialism and a dark future where things have gone terribly wrong. The developers have released a new story trailer, but also a 35-minute gameplay video, which gives a deep dive into what to expect.

“Your mission is to locate key people from the past who perished in the ensuing apocalypse. Using your all-powerful Harvester, you can extract their Essences and have them accompany you into the future.

But be wary: these essences have a profound impact on your journey.

The more you carry, the more haunted your suit becomes — increasing your prowess on the battlefield but also bringing with them whispers in your ear and flickers into your vision, edging you ever closer to madness.”

“Don’t Let Them Merge! The creatures you kill won’t stay dead for long. Fallen enemies can be absorbed by others — through a grotesque process called Merging — to become faster, tougher, and far deadlier.

The only way to stop them? Burn their bodies. And do it fast. If you don’t, you’ll face ever-evolving abominations that will push your combat skills to their limits.”

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
