Happy N7 day to Mass Effect fans everywhere on the 18th anniversary of the launch of the first game, which spawned the intergalactic franchise. The franchise has seen its ups and downs, continues to draw new players, and has new stories on the way, both in the form of an upcoming game and streaming series. Mass Effect executive producer Mike Gamble has provided updates on these today to celebrate N7 Day, and while details are limited, he does emphasize that things are moving forward on both fronts.

“Like you, we’ve heard the rumors lately. You’ve made it clear you care deeply about what’s next. So let’s start by setting the record straight: the next Mass Effect game is in development, and EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe.”

– Mike Gamble Executive Producer, Mass Effect

Gamble goes on to say that the BioWare team is hard at work on building features into the new game, they will reveal more when ready, and even teases that there may be some secret messages hidden within his latest tweets. Regarding the streaming series, Gamble updates BioWare is working closely with Amazon’s writers to create a brand new story set after the original trilogy, and adds that “It won’t be a retread of Commander Shepard’s story – because after all … that’s YOUR story, isn’t it?”

Not much about the series has been revealed, but it was previously announced that Ari Arad (many Marvel projects, Uncharted, Borderlands, Ghost in the Shell movies) and Gamble would executive produce it, Daniel Casey (Fast & Furious 9, Drone, Kin) to write, with Doug Jung (Chief of War, Mindhunter, Scalped, Star Trek Beyond) as showrunner.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition Community Patch 2.0 Notes

Fans of the original trilogy, or more specifically the Legendary Edition, might want to check out the latest community patch, which packs numerous QoL updates. The new update brings the LE1 Framework to aid with mod compatibility support and tools, and while there’s still some footwork for users to get set up, once finished, it can greatly simplify things moving forward. The first three games were great... until the non flexible cinematic ending... The next game should have been an investigation into this enigmatic force and how to beat/defeat them... but meh. I'm still down for another game in that universe.

Completely agree.

Nothing would make me happier at this point than ME4/5/whatever getting cancelled and Bioware getting closed down and stripped for parts.

The ME Trilogy is a flawed masterpiece.

Andromeda had the good sense to go to another galaxy, but ME4 is going to crack open the trilogy and make it retroactively worse with whatever shit tier writing passes muster at Bioware these days.

Bioware has not released a good game in over 10 years at this point (Inquisition being their last really *good* game and even that was deeply flawed).

I'd rather get a soft reboot MEA2 than a ME4, less emotional investment in the outcome there and it is wholey a product of NuWare.

As far as I'm concerned the trilogy never concluded and the indoctrination theory is canon.

After seeing what veilguard was this is my sentiment too. Except the parts should be scattered and thrown into active volcanoes never to be found again.

Krogan Civil War, a teaser image suggests potential story point for ME5.

I've also read about rumors that multiple projects are in development, ranging from remakes to new games.

I'm already less excited. I hope the artwork is just for the codex referencing the Krogan rebellions because I'm really not interested in a krogan focused story, even less so in a prequel.

And throwing everything at the wall instead of making one good game? whose bright idea was that?

I mean lets be real. IF AI was let loose here the game would be 1 main protagonist. With 80's era box art sexified characters everywhere. And we would all probably at least try a demo. ;) Plot is great, story is great... but sex sells. ;)

That's all it would do. I mean I tried Stellar Blade demo too, but it was very simplistic and generic hack and slash making even ME: Andromeda look like a masterpiece.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
