Intel has unceremoniously listed its next discrete GPU, the BMG-G31, in the release notes for its developer diagnostic tool, VTUNE profiler. Nicknamed Big Battlemage, this GPU also has another name, the Arc B770, which has been long-awaited by PC enthusiasts wanting to see how Intel’s next offering will perform. While Intel is still struggling to gain a larger foothold in the GPU market, it has managed to keep the attention of those who desire a more affordable GPU for low to mid-tier PCs, and the previous custom AIB $229 B570 did well in testing, with some caveats.

As spotted by VideoCardz, the newest Intel VTUNE release notes have listed support for the BMG-G31 GPU alongside support for the upcoming Panther Lake Intel Core Ultra 3 processors. It’s a fairly good possibility that both of these will get formal reveals in a few weeks at CES 26. The Intel Arc B770 is expected to do well at 1440p gaming while showing further improvements over previous Arc GPUs at 4K.

New Features

  • Code Annotations Enhancement for ITT API: Introduced Formatted Metadata API for the Instrumentation and Tracing Technology (ITT) API, enabling attachment of printf-style formatted string data to tasks. This provides richer context in timeline tooltips and supports grouping in bottom-up analysis views, simplifying identification of performance patterns across diverse execution scenarios.
  • Finalization speedup: finalization is now up to 2x faster for workloads with extensive compute tasks and multi-GPU usage, based on internal benchmarks compared to the previous release.
  • Support for Intel® Arc Battlemage(BMG-G31) and Intel® Core™ Ultra 3 Processors(Panther Lake)
  • Bug Fixes and Security: Includes updates for critical bug fixes and security issues.

Battlemage graphics have recently made their debut in the mobile sector with Intel’s Lunar Lake Core Ultra 200V processors. Supporting LPDDR5X memory, these iGPUs are included in the same tile package as the CPU and NPU, bringing significant improvements over the previous Arrow Lake processors

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
