The studio behind the Kingdom Come Deliverance franchise has announced that it’s working on a new game, as well as a surprise project set in Middle-Earth. It’s been eight years since Warhorse Studios debuted its historically based open-world RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Using CryEngine (yes, Crysis), it too pushed PCs to their limits with its realistic-looking visuals and went on to become a hit among PC players who’d become inundated with medieval fantasy RPGs. Last year, its sequel, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, was released and was also well received by the gaming community, but now the developers have announced they are not only looking to make another franchise addition but also expanding into J.R.R. Tolkien’s famous works.

So far, there is nothing else known regarding either project, but Warhorse has said it intends to reveal more soon. Meanwhile, per VGC, the studio, which is still owned by Embracer Group, yes, the conglomerate which at one point seemed poised to assimilate many of the gaming studios on the planet before a financial implosion led to it selling off many of its purchases, has made this announcement at the same time as Embracer’s reveal of its new Fellowship Entertainment group. Embracer is essentially creating a new group to split its various IPs based on types of games, focusing on Lord of the Rings games and including Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider), 4A Games, Dambuster Studios, Dark Horse Media, Eidos-Montréal, Middle-earth Enterprises, Warhorse Studios, and more.

Fans of the Kingdom Come games may also be looking forward to a big-screen adaptation, as the game director is said to be working on making a movie version. Director Daniel Vávra stepped away from the game earlier this year (per CzechCrunch via VGC), but is still a part of the Warhorse team, so he could helm a theatrical project.

“Getting Kingdom Come to the screen or the screen in the next few years is another milestone that we want to achieve, and that is Dan’s new role. You won’t see him in the office every day anymore, but in a broader sense, he is still part of Warhorse.”

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
