4A Games has released a new gameplay trailer for Metro 2039 and has announced a February 2027 target release. It’s been a couple of months since the next game in the post-apocolyptic game franchise was revealed with a vague winter launch date which has now been narrowed down to the second month of next year. The new gameplay trailer made its debut during the recent Xbox Games Showcase caputured using in-game footage.

“gameplay was really what we wanted to show off here. Captured entirely in-game, we give glimpses into the diverse environments from the game, including many that directly inspired the nightmarish visions of our reveal trailer – from deadly wildlands to irradiated Moscow streets, struggling station communities, and the terrifying depths of the tunnels themselves.”

Titled “Hunter” this trailer focuses on the game’s main villian who has taken control of the Moscow Metro. Along with his fascist regime, Hunter uses fear, terror and torture to keep the remaining human surivivors in the capital metro under his control. Once a valued member of the Spartans, he has become a tyrant who rules without mercy and the Spartan order has fallen into ruins leaving the people without a means of defense against its unwanted ruler.

“The trailer is narrated by our protagonist, The Stranger, who begins to shed light into how the Metro fell. He is consumed with anger and hatred, his inner monologue chastising the Fuhrer for his lies and hypocrisy, “you promised a brighter future… you swore to crush the enemy”.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
