Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Launch Confirmed This Week, Steam Deck Verified

Ubisoft has locked in the release schedule for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and it comes with welcome news for handheld PC owners: the remaster has been awarded Steam Deck Verified status ahead of launch, and by extension is confirmed compatible with the Steam Machine platform.

TechPowerUp noted the Steam Deck Verified certification, which means Valve’s own compatibility testing has confirmed the game runs with full controller support, legible UI at handheld resolution, and stable framerates within SteamOS. For Steam Machine owners who picked up a unit during Valve’s rollout, getting a big-budget remaster with Verified status at launch is exactly the kind of content validation the platform has been waiting for.

The Resynced edition is a substantial overhaul of the 2013 original rather than a simple resolution bump. Ubisoft has rebuilt character models, reworked lighting and water rendering, updated the open world geometry, and brought the entire Caribbean setting up to current-generation standards visually. Naval combat, the thing Black Flag is genuinely remembered for above everything else, reportedly received particular attention in the visual pass. The original game was one of the more beloved entries in a franchise that has had a complicated relationship with its own legacy, and bringing it forward with care rather than just upressing the textures and calling it done is the right approach.

Whether the PC version arrives in a better state than Ubisoft’s recent PC ports have managed is the remaining question. Pre-release technical reports have been positive, and the Steam Deck Verified status suggests the performance envelope is under control. This is one to pick up day one if Black Flag meant something to you the first time around.

As much as I am interested in this game I'm going to wait to read bunch of reviews before getting. Given Ubisoft's continued questionable quality launches (still in shock they screwed up something as simple as SW Monopoly at launch but reviews are slightly better now), I don't want my first hours with it feeling like a beta tester.

And ubi is one of those in a years time the ultimate mega edition will be 30 bucks.

yeah and I've got at least another 10+ hours to go for my latest run of ROTR, still considering finishing off Oblivion Remastered with the same amount of time, and thinking about a 2nd run of the latest RE game. That being said, if I don't add anything else, I might time it just right to get this at a discount later on. Meanwhile Halo is also on my radar. . .

Speaking of ubi, never got very far with SW Outlaws and I feel I should give it another shot.

I've started that one but kind of put it down when life got busy... that's a solid thought.

I have only seen game play. The enemy AI seemed so broken I never gave it another thought.

Going to be interesting to see how many will buy this new BF version.

Put in maybe 10 hours and can't remember my impressions regarding its AI buy was impressed with its graphics (I enabled the outlaw whatever hidden settings) and design which did give a solid SW feel imho. I waited until a good deal on Epic for the ultimate edition popped up last winter but after starting realized I wasn't quite ready for another 50+ hours and grinding for it yet. Nothing against it, just had others I wanted to get back to.

The one big thing that bugged me though was how it seemed to override my undevolt settings for my 5090s and managed to pull 450 to over 500W. If it still does that I'm going to need to lower some settings which'll be a bummer. Off the top of my head I think this is the only game I've seen do that, CP2077 can hang in the low 400s at max but even it doesn't perform the same way. I did find some threads on the subject and there more than a few folks out there who experienced the same but I was really shocked and uncomfortable with this.

Has to be an Nvidia driver bug where it is ignoring the undervolt if certain features are being used by the game engine.

I see Ubislop managed to ruin a classic via greed. Not calling OG BF the best game in the series, IMO Odyssey is better. It is already back to mostly positive which is a little suspicious. Orgainc stans brigade to the rescue? or shenanigans with account and review farming?
