Game Science has just released a trailer for the next entry in its Black Myth game franchise, which provides a 15-minute look into Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The Black Myth: Wukong sequel does not yet have a release date, and Game Science has said the trailer was made from an early work-in-progress build. What’s interesting is that the developers chose to use the 21:9 aspect ratio in this footage, something many of those with ultrawide displays will be happy about. The trailer has barely been up for 24 hours and has already racked up over 1 million views.

“With blood beneath my blade, I paint new rouge upon my face,
An old friend visits, in a dream taking place.
Old faces, bygone deeds, have vanished from my sight,
Still, I remember every one, by day and through the night.
Those bound by love grow old; the righteous road runs long;
Today’s notes of grace or grudge define not the final song.
Who says the Underworld is far away?
All the better—once more I’ll walk along.”

The new protagonist, Zhong Kui, is a noted demon hunter (per Wiki) who was once a Taoist warrior and scholar, a vanquisher of ghosts and evil beings, who is capable of commanding 80,000 demons (although it’s unknown if this power will be featured in the game) and is often depicted in paintings as a guardian. Game Science has said that currently it is unable to share more about the story for the upcoming game and that “Many player’s readings of the videos are so ingenious, their lore deep dives so meticulous, and their theories so wildly imaginative that they’ve gone far beyond even the development team’s own understanding of the project.”

This being said, it sounds as if the developers have more homework to do as they continue to work on the game, but fan support is very positive for the new trailer, and excitement is high for the game’s eventual release.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
