It’s been two years since being announced, but Archetype Entertainment has at least revealed when it plans to release EXODUS, which will arrive next spring. As most will know by now, Archetype Entertainment is a studio largely comprised of veterans from throughout the gaming industry, and in particular BioWare. The developers have consistently updated the gaming community on its progress via various videos and posts but avoided a date until revealing it at last night’s Gamescom opening. EXODUS will arrive for PC and consoles on April 7, 2027.
The developers do not try to hide their previous contributions to other games, and DNA from Mass Effect is clearly seen within EXODUS. The real question on everyone’s mind will be the quality of the game and if these veterans can escape some of the criticisms that plagued Mass Effect 3 and Andromeda. EXODUS is based on the book series by Peter F Hamilton.
EXODUS will also be the 2nd game from ex-staff of a AAA studio to be released within a matter of months following the release of Blood of Dawnwalker on September 3. That game is developed by a team that left CD PROJEKT RED, worked on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, to form their own studio called Rebel Wolves. Over the last decade, there have been multiple AAA studio departures or closures, which resulted in those staff seeking new beginnings, but these two titles, and their teams, are perhaps the most notable to get a game off the ground. Here’s hoping that each is able to get a successful start and not repeat any mistakes, as witnessed with Striking Distance Studios and The Calisto Protocol, which had been developed by ex-Dead Space series co-creator Glen Schofield. That game eventually led to the closure of Striking Distance and eventually Schofield’s retirement. Regardless, it’s refreshing to see new projects, and particularly new franchises and not remakes or remasters, on the horizon.
