According to Fable game director Will Kennedy, players can expect roughly 30- 40 hours of content between the main campaign and side quests. Depending on your perspective, this three-bears scenario, as shared in an interview with Polygon, could end up being too short, too long, or just about right. While completionists are by nature going to commit 40 hours or so to discover what they can, Kennedy also added that the game’s life systems will allow for unlimited play.
“We have around 15-20 hours of mainline quest gameplay, we have around 15-20 hours of side and open-world exploration content gameplay,” said Kennedy, who added that “the life systems are limitless, so you can play them for as long as you want.”
As reported by VGC, the aforementioned life systems involve roughly 1,000 NPCs with whom a player can interact even after the main campaign has been completed. Associate game director Craig Little supported the above statement, stating, “As Will just said, you can literally play it forever if that’s what you want to do.”
While the game’s NPCs each have their own dialogue, it is questionable how long players will continue to check in, but you never know; this Sims approach could indeed provide many more hours of entertainment for gamers once all their main chores have been taken care of. Checking in on the local farmer or weaponsmith to see how things are going could be a draw to keep players engaged and immersed in the world of Fable. A shorter campaign may also end up with a greater number of replays if the story is interesting enough or has multiple outcomes. After all, with so many new titles arriving in the upcoming months and early 2027, shorter playthroughs do present more opportunities to enjoy other titles. The big question is whether or not Playground Games has crafted an adventure that will satisfy gamers and keep bringing them back for more. Fable arrives for PC and consoles on February 27, 2027.
