The Blood of Dawnwalker is proving to be a big hit for Rebel Wolves after selling over a million copies within its first twenty-four hours of release. Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who is the former director of The Witcher 3, is the head of Rebel Wolves, which is also composed of other CDPR talent, posted on social media about the game’s achievement.

Reviews for The Blood of Dawnwalker are, generally speaking, very positive, with most praising the game for its story, visuals, and characters. By far the majority of complaints regard issues with its controls, especially during large-scale battles, and how its premium Eclipse Edition provides its added soundtrack content, which is strangely only accessible via the game’s menu instead of a folder with audio files. Hopefully the developers will get patches out to remedy both issues. However, from players to media reviewers, The Blood of Dawnwalker has managed to impress folks and create a new fanbase. Rebel Wolves has previously said the game is intended to be a franchise launching point, and if sales maintain momentum, funding for a sequel shouldn’t be a problem.

“The Blood of Dawnwalker is the first chapter of Rebel Wolves’ brand new role-playing saga — a single-player open-world dark fantasy action-RPG with a strong focus on story and narrative. Developed on Unreal Engine 5 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox X|S.”

The developers have emphasized a choice-based system where players’ decisions have significant impact on how the story unfolds. While many others have made similar claims for their games, Rebel Wolves have purposely built the game around this mechanic while also adding a time limit to complete the main story. Modders have already begun releasing their own workaround for this so that those who wish to choose a more leisurely approach can do so. However, it should be noted that just because time runs out, it doesn’t mean the game ends, as players are allowed to move on, albeit with the consequences of their actions, or lack thereof. The Blood of Dawnwalker is available for PC (via Steam or GOG) and consoles for $69.99 (base) or $79.99 (Eclipse edition).

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
