IO Interactive has released an update for 007 First Light, adding Path Tracing and Ray Reconstruction, along with new recommended requirements for the GPU-intensive features. 007 First Light launched on May 27, 2026, using an updated version of IO’s Glacier Engine (Hitman) that supports DLSS 4.5 and was prepped for the new ray tracing features. The game has been praised on multiple levels, one of which is its scalability across various PC configurations and resolutions, but as is common, GPU-intensive tasks such as path tracing can take a heavy toll on performance; it’s not all doom and gloom, either, for those hoping to add a bit more lighting flare to their gaming experience.
“The update builds on IO Interactive’s ongoing collaboration with NVIDIA GeForce, first unveiled in January 2026 alongside 007 First Light’s official PC specifications.”

As the chart above shows, users hoping to see 60 FPS will need, at minimum, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 to play the game at 1080p with Medium Path Tracing, and similarly a GeForce RTX 5080 is recommended for 1440p/60. However, using the game’s ultra preset combined with the path tracing high setting, things move into predictable territory where a GeForce RTX 5090 is called for when playing at 4K. Ray Reconstruction is on by default anytime Path Tracing is enabled. Thankfully, due to the game’s support of DLSS 4.5, there are tools users with NVIDIA GPUs can employ to help mitigate performance issues. From the use of the newer transformer models used in performance mode to multi-frame generation, there are means to improve performance while utilizing these new features.
“For the game, IO Interactive significantly advanced its proprietary Glacier engine, evolving it to support the game’s cinematic tone, dynamic action, and breathtaking set pieces, with enhancements spanning more expressive character performances and environments that feel alive and breathing.”

IO Interactive recently celebrated having sold over 4 million copies of 007 First Light and has previously said that more DLC is in the works. There has yet to be any official announcement from Amazon Games regarding a sequel, but many are hoping one will be greenlit. In other news, IO announced yesterday that the Nintendo Switch 2 version has been pushed back to March 2027.
