PC players have spent years assuming they’d be watching GTA VI on YouTube for a year and a half before getting to play it. That assumption may finally be wrong (Ed: Are you trying to be funny with the featured image you picked?).
GamesBeat reported on October 13 that Rockstar plans to release the PC version of GTA VI in the first quarter of 2027. The report cites four industry sources familiar with the studio’s plans, all speaking anonymously. Rockstar did not respond to a request for comment before publication. The console version is still set for November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
A Q1 2027 window would put the PC launch roughly three to four months after consoles. That would be a massive change from GTA V, which reached PC in April 2015, about 19 months after its September 2013 console debut. It’s also faster than what Take-Two’s own messaging suggested earlier this year, when the company defended the console-first launch.
The business case is not hard to see. Take-Two’s CEO has previously said PC ports can drive over 40% of a game’s sales. GamesBeat notes the game’s budget is rumored to exceed $2 billion. There’s also the roleplay angle. Rockstar bought Cfx.re, the team behind the FiveM roleplay framework, in August 2023, and FiveM runs entirely on PC. If GTA VI’s online and user-generated content plans lean on roleplay the way GTA V’s community did, a PC version isn’t optional.
Fiscal timing points the same way. Q1 2027 lands inside Take-Two’s fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, which would let the PC launch count toward the same year as the console release.
Still, this is a report, not an announcement, and Rockstar has delayed this game twice already. GamesBeat itself notes the PC build will have to meet the same quality bar as consoles before it ships. That’s a polite way of saying a slip is always possible.
If it holds, the people paying $1,499 for used PS5 Pros at GameStop to play on day one might want to rethink that. For PC players, the smart money is still on not buying hardware for GTA VI until Rockstar publishes system requirements.
