Daisy Ridley is set to return to the Star Wars world in a new film that will trace Rey Skywalker’s attempt at building a new Jedi Order, and while it’s unclear when it’ll come out, the actress suggests that it might actually be a good movie.
In an interview with Collider for her new movie, The Marsh King’s Daughter, which is out on digital now, Ridley talked a little bit about her new Star Wars movie, revealing that while the film might not be what fans might be expecting, the story is “very cool,” so cool that she’s “very excited” to be a part of it.
Here’s what Ridley, who’s 31 now, told the website, including what she experienced during the lead-up to this year’s Star Wars Celebration event in Europe:
I will tell you, Steve, when I saw you in Park City, I had not been approached. I was asked some, not by you, but I was asked something when I was there and strangely, people were asking me stuff and I was like, “No, I’m not doing another one.” Then it all happened after I came back. It was such a nice reception. I was shitting myself before I went on stage, because no one knew I was going to that. No one knew I was going to Celebration, bar like Kathy [Kennedy] and there were a couple of people. I was so nervous. Oh my God. It was such a wonderful reception. I’m very excited. The story is really cool. I’m waiting to read a script because, obviously, I don’t have any other updates. It’s not what I expected, but I’m very excited.
In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ridley echoed the sentiment that her new Star Wars movie will be an exciting film, one that has a story “worth telling.”
She also revealed that she had no clue Lucasfilm was going to approach her about coming back to Star Wars:
The basic course is when I was at Sundance, I did not know. I shot my movie [Magpie] when I got back, and I had a breakfast with Kathy [Kennedy] that I thought was just breakfast. (Laughs.) And then it was mentioned, so I thought about it. I loved the story, and I was like, “Okay.” Things then happened quite quickly, and it felt like I was instantaneously on a stage being introduced by [director] Sharmeen [Obaid-Chinoy]. It honestly took me back to being 20 or 21, however old I was, when [Star Wars: The Force Awakens] was announced. I was petrified, I was overwhelmed, I was really nervous but the response was really wonderful. And I’m genuinely really excited about the next one. I haven’t read anything, but I know the story. It’s really worth telling, worth exploring, and I think people will be excited.
Lucasfilm announced that it would be developing three new live-action Star Wars movies during this year’s Star Wars Celebration event.
One will be helmed by James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), another by Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, Ahsoka), while Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel, Saving Face) will be directing the one with Rey.
Lucasfilm has confirmed that the movie will be set after the events of Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, a conclusion to the Skywalker saga that earned over $1 billion at the box office.

You know what? I’ll take it. They’ve pretty much made it impossible to do Heir to the Empire, but there is plenty they can mine - just like they did with comics and marvel
Well if they want to keep using some of the recent cast they better not wait another 15 years orso b4 making more movies, the ruined enough with geriatric heroes.

They need er to bulk up. She needs to look stronger and more athletic.. thicc even. It was funny for a while to have skinny boy looking girls be lead heros. Not it's just annoying.

I thought we were done with Star Wars movies for a good long while. Apparently not.
Maybe if they had started with that but now, the whole thing is a joke. They won't get any of it right, not even a good approximation of the stories in the books. They'll be worse adaptations, worse than the cheesiest of the bad novels in the expanded universe. They couldn't even get a good story out there with Admiral Thrawn.
Star Wars is dead to me, even more so than Star Trek. There is nothing to get excited about. I was excited for force awakens. But they blew it hard. And TLJ wasn't even incompetence, it was malice. After that I couldn't sit down to watch another SW movie, not even for free.
Now that would be at least something to get excited about, but it will never happen. For all their virtue signaling about strong female leads, hollywood still hates literal strong females.
If it's good then great but if not then it's just another thing to throw in the pile. However, in the end, ticket sales will be the determining factor of success for Disney/Kennedy. Ultimately it was the writing, not the cast, that annoyed me the most with the last trilogy so while I expect the worst I'll try to keep an open mind.
