UK developer/publisher Codemasters has paid $30 million for London’s Slightly Mad Studios, the award-winning team behind motorsport racing simulator Project CARS. The developer is a perfect fit for Codemasters, which built its company and reputation on racing games. Three projects are in development over at Slightly Mad: a mobile version of Project CARS, an original IP, and a title that is rumored to be based on the Fast & Furious film franchise.

“Codemasters’ acquisition of SMS will create a global leader in the racing genre,” said Codemasters CEO Frank Sagnier. “Their focus on AAA quality and the passion that they put into everything they create mirrors our own. Both companies have a number of world renowned, successful franchises along with exciting product development pipelines, supported by leading IP and some of the best talent in the gaming industry.
