The GeForce RTX 3060, an Ampere-based graphics card that NVIDIA launched at $329 in January 2021 to replace the GeForce GTX 1060, delivering what the company says is twice the raster performance and 10x the ray tracing performance of its Pascal predecessor, will soon be harder to find, according to a new report that claims NVIDIA is discontinuing the GPU, with the company having told AICs recently about planning their final shipments. The GeForce RTX 3060 is the most popular GPU among Steam users, according to the July 2024 edition of the Steam Hardware & Software Survey, where the graphics card sits at #1 with a 5.88% market share above the GeForce GTX 1650 and GeForce RTX 3060 Ti.

Key specs include:

  • CUDA Cores: 3584
  • Boost Clock: 1.78 GHz
  • Memory Size: 12 GB
  • Memory Type: GDDR6

From a report (machine translation):

  • “According to accurate information, NVIDIA has indeed announced the discontinuation of production of the RTX 3060 Series, and has notified all AIC brands to plan the final supply order.”
  • “Since there is only one batch of GPU supply left for the RTX 3060 series, NVIDIA notified the three core systems of Taiwan, Colorful, Tongde, and Bo Neng to distribute the last batch of GPUs.”
  • “NV requires AIC brands to place orders for the last planned quantity. According to NV’s distribution rules, it will be supplied to AIC brands in batches in the next few months.”

A promo for the GeForce RTX 3060:

NVIDIA on the GeForce RTX 3060:

The GeForce RTX 3060 is built with a 192-bit bus, which allows us to equip this latest addition to the 3060 family with 12 GB of fast GDDR6 memory. The 12GB of faster GDDR6 also makes it a great choice for creators working with large datasets, models, and detailed scenes.

Resizable BAR will be supported on the GeForce RTX 30 Series, too, starting with the RTX 3060. When combined with a compatible motherboard that supports the feature, this advanced PCI Express technology enables all of the GPU memory to be accessed by the CPU at once, providing a performance boost in many games.
