Western Digital Teases Multiple World’s Firsts, including 16 TB Portable SSD and 32 TB ePMR SMR HDD

The world’s first-ever 16 TB portable SSD, a new super-sized SSD that is said to deliver unprecedented space and performance to keep up with the growing demands of creators and consumers, will be revealed during this week’s Future of Memory and Storage Conference, which will take place from August 6–8 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Western Digital has announced. The new SSD, which is still in a proof-of-concept phase, will be complemented by the reveal of several other next-generation storage products for both enterprise and consumers, including the world’s first 32TB ePMR SMR HDD.

Western Digital’s latest developments include:

  • First-ever 16TB portable SSD (proof of concept)
  • 16TB SanDisk Desk Drive
  • World’s first SanDisk 4TB microSDUC UHS-I card
  • World’s first SanDisk 8TB SDUC UHS-I card
  • PCIe Gen5 enterprise-class SSD (eSSD)
  • New 64TB eSSD for storage-intensive applications
  • World’s first 32TB ePMR SMR HDD
  • BiCS8 128TB high-capacity QLC eSSD technology
  • RapidFlex interposer (converts PCIe SSD signals to Ethernet)
  • New PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSDs for AI PCs, gaming rigs, workstations, laptops and other mobile client PC
  • AT EN610 NVMe SSD is (automotive-grade, high-performance, wide–temperature range storage solution)
