Tango Gameworks, the Japanese video game developer best known for several franchises, including The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Hi-Fi Rush, is being resurrected following its closure by Microsoft in June, according to a press release that KRAFTON sent out today about how it has acquired the studio. KRAFTON is best known as the publisher behind PUBG: Battlegrounds, the 2017 battle royale game that peaked with over 3 million players on Steam years ago but continues to maintain a strong player base, having transitioned to F2P in 2022.

KRAFTON writes:

  • “KRAFTON is accelerating equity investments and new IP discovery to diversify platforms and genres.”
  • “Since 2021, the company invested in 27 companies, including 14 in North America and 8 in Europe, and also expanded the genres of the acquired games to include shooters, RPG and simulation.”
  • “Additionally, in August, KRAFTON acquired the development team of a Japanese game developer, Tango Gameworks.”

The original announcement from Tango:

From Tango Gameworks, the studio that brought you The Evil Within and Ghostwire:Tokyo (no, really) comes Hi-Fi RUSH, an all-new action game where the characters, world and combat stylishly sync to the music!
