Star Wars Outlaws, the new open-world, action-adventure game from Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft that will be available for Gold Edition, Ultimate Edition, and Ubisoft+ players to play later today as part of an Early Access perk, may launch with a few performance issues, including what is said to be a memory leak, as well as rendering problems derived from AMD FSR 3 and its Frame Generation technology, according to a performance analysis for a preview version of the game that has been shared online. The new game, which is priced from $69.99 to $129.99, will officially be released for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PCs on August 30.
From a report:
- “…enabling FSR 3 frame generation induces all kinds of rendering issues and there’s a fairly substantial memory leak that kicks in after a long play time…”
- “[This results] in the game sucking up all your VRAM, dropping the frame rate, and forcing textures to lower in resolution.”
- “Such things are normal in preview samples of games and the review notes clearly show that Ubisoft is aware of the issues so hopefully they will all be resolved in time for the launch.”
Critics are saying:
- “Players have the chance to take on the role of a smuggler to blast, sneak and fast-talk their way through the Star Wars universe. It does an excellent job of capturing the tone and feel of the franchise, and it feels like a Star Wars game should.”
- “Star Wars Outlaws is an epic journey worth living. It’s an adventure that not only captures all those elements that have made Star Wars one of the most beloved franchises in all of entertainment, but also feels like a new era for Ubisoft.”
- “While Star Wars: Outlaws soars thanks to its spectacular open-world design, letting you loose across multiple gargantuan planets all brought to life with immense attention to detail, a safe and rather by-the-books narrative brings the package down from being an all-time great.”
- “While the stealth gameplay can sometimes become repetitive, Star Wars Outlaws is largely a blast. The attention to detail is top-notch, with each planet being a lot of fun to explore and side missions providing some of the best moments.”
- “Star Wars Outlaws is a fun intergalactic heist adventure with great exploration, but it’s hindered by simple stealth, repetitive combat, and a few too many bugs at launch.”
