A Minecraft Movie, a live-action film based on the best-selling 2011 sandbox game from Mojang Studios that features Jason Momoa as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison and Jack Black as the default skin, “Steve,” is coming to theaters in 2025, Warner Bros. Pictures has confirmed in a teaser trailer for the film that was released today. The majority of fans do not like it, according to comments that can be found across social media, with some saying that it feels like a YouTube skit from 2013.

Critics are saying:

  • “Please send this back to the crafting table”
  • “Back when I was a kid, I always imagined what a Minecraft movie would like. It did not look like this.”
  • “Minecraft Story Mode not only did it first but they somehow did it BETTER almost a DECADE ago”
  • “So what everyone expected was Jack Black as Steve surviving in Minecraft, instead we got Jumanji in Minecraft.”
  • “I think I’d rather just have a 3 hour long movie of Jack Black just playing minecraft”
  • “Warner Brothers should have drank a Fire Resistance potion with how bad they are being flamed”

The new teaser trailer:

A synopsis of the film:

Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits—Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.
