The Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo’s next hybrid video game console, has entered mass production, with as many as 1,000 units being made per day, according to new rumors that have surfaced out of China, including what is said to be a slightly larger size than the original 2017 system, as well as black and white Joy-Cons that feature a press-fit rather than rail-based, slide-in design. The design of the new Joy-Cons have been compared to what can be found on the GPD XP, a modular Android console that features detachable modules, allowing players to switch between several configurations, such as Xbox, MOBA, and FPS.
The rumors read:
- “Switch 2 production has started in [somewhere in China, which I don’t want to translate].”
- “1000 units per day [Edit: This is one worker, not the whole line.].”
- “Slightly larger than Switch 1.
- “Smaller bezel.”
- “Black and white Joy-Con.”
- “Slightly larger logo, with ‘2’ on the side.”
As for the new Joy-Cons:
- “It seems that my previous interpretation of the unverified leaker’s description was correct.”
- “The new Joy-Con coupling mechanism is no longer a slide-in rail, but a press-fit joint.”
- “My guess is that it will work in conjunction with magnetic attraction to secure the controller.”
- “Based on the person’s updated description, it sounds similar to the magnetic controller slot of GDP XP but in reverse (protrusion on the console side).”
