The Ryzen 9000X3D Series, a new family of desktop processors from AMD that will pair the company’s latest Zen 5 architecture with 3D V-Cache technology for improved gaming performance, is what gamers should be spending their money on instead of the standard Ryzen 9000 Series, according to a new article that MSI published today comparing X870 motherboards vs. those in the older 600 Series (i.e., X670, B650). AMD launched its first Ryzen 9000 Series CPUs, the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X, on August 8, while the Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X arrived at retailers on August 15.

MSI writes:

  • “…when it comes to gaming, the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is still clearly the King due to AMD’s innovative 3D V-Cache technology.”
  • “…it’s understandable that hardcore gamers will want to wait for new X3D CPUs from AMD before considering an upgrade.”
  • “If you’re going with AMD Ryzen 9000, you’ll find varying levels of performance reported in the media.”
  • “MSI’s X870E and X870 motherboards come equipped with several AMD Ryzen 9000-series specific features like AMD OPP, Memory Try It, and High-Efficiency Mode to get the most out of your games right away!”

MSI added:

AMD boasts a significant improvement in productivity workloads with its AMD Ryzen 9000 processors – advertising up to 16% faster performance per clock vs. AMD Ryzen 7000, (source: AMD). Hence, higher-core-count parts like the 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 9950X or the 12-core AMD Ryzen 9 9900X will be excellent picks for professional workloads like 3D rendering, video editing, motion graphics, running multiple virtual machines, etc.
