12V-2×6, a minor revision of the original (and arguably infamous) 16-pin 12VHPWR connector that was popularized via NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics cards, may be found in next-generation Arc and Radeon GPUs, according to a new report that claims AMD and Intel have begun testing the new connector for use in its future products. It’s unclear whether 12V-2×6 will actually be adopted by either company, however, as the report notes that the current 8-pin connector remains in play for its reliability. Diagrams that show how the dimensions of 12VHPWR (left) and 12V2x6 (right) compare, per a July 2023 report from Igor’s Lab, can be found below.

…the reason for this is that the 8-pin PCI Express power connector still behaves more reliably in the tests, there are hardly any problems with it during the load tests, i.e. it brings the usual security. In contrast, the 12V-2×6 power connector, while much improved over the 12VHPWR, is nearly as reliable as the old option at just under 300 watts.
