A remake of Rayman, the 1995 platform game from Michel Ancel that was the first to introduce the franchise’s magical world and titular, limbless protagonist, is currently in development under the codename “Project Steambot” at Ubisoft Milan, according to a new report. Ancel, who is also known for being the creator of Beyond Good & Evil, will reportedly serve as a consultant for the project despite what one outlet had claimed to be “toxic leadership” at Ubisoft—something that the video game designer has since denied. A portion of the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team, which is said to be have been disbanded after the game failed to meet Ubisoft’s sales expections, has reportedly joined the project.
It has been estimated that around a dozen developers from the disbanded Prince of Persia team have migrated to work on the Rayman Remake. Elsewhere, other developers have pivoted to work on Beyond Good & Evil 2 and the next Ghost Recon title.
