Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the new fantasy RPG from BioWare, marks a return to form for the Canadian video game developer that won the hearts of gamers with Baldur’s Gate, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, and other RPGs before spoiling its reputation with more recent projects that include Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem, according to positive reviews for the game that have been published today. Praise for the new RPG, which has been described as a “triumph” and “astonishing spectacle” by some publications, come just a few days ahead of its launch later this week, on Halloween. See below for a few of the positive reviews that have been rounded up on aggregators that include Metacritic, including an official launch trailer.

Press Start Australia: Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a triumph for BioWare in practically every way. It brings together the best bits of all the games that have come before it, pairing an intricately woven narrative ripe with genuine choice and consequences with a fast, frenetic and endlessly satisfying combat system. The Veilguard is, without a doubt, Dragon Age at it’s best.

Eurogamer: A fantasy role-playing game of astonishing spectacle. This is the best Dragon Age, and perhaps BioWare, has ever been.

PlayStation Universe: Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a must-have RPG this holiday season. There is so much that Veilguard brings to the table that it’s hard to find something to dislike. Veilguard is a complete package that gives you everything you could ever wish for in an action-RPG, and is without a doubt a return to form for BioWare.

IGN: Dragon Age: The Veilguard refreshes and reinvigorates a storied series that stumbled through its middle years, and leaves no doubt that it deserves its place in the RPG pantheon. The next Mass Effect is going to have a very tough act to follow…
