Active Matter is an upcoming multiplayer/online co-op being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox X|S, that is set to launch in 2025. Described as a realistic tactical shooter, it will support both PvPvE and PvP modes. Players will be able to use authentic weapons as they utilize a still-as-yet fully researched substance to traverse time and multiple realities while war spreads across the multiverse. As players and their teams make their way across the dimensions they’ll witness how the substance not only allows interdimensional travel but also how it seems to rip, tear, and warp things around them. Gaijin Entertainment is its publisher and Matter Team is developing it. PC hardware requirements have not yet been revealed.
Per Official Announcement:
“Introducing a new mind-bending tactical shooter set in a fractured multiverse!
You’ll play as an operative trapped in a time loop, returning to the same point after each death. You’ll choose your loadout and venture into quantum-unstable zones rich with “active matter” — a substance capable of warping and ripping the very fabric of space and time. You’ll face opponents from other timelines, physics-breaking anomalies, and mysterious supernatural entities. Your mission: extract active matter, collect loot, and evacuate safely before the zone ceases to exist along with everything inside it.
Active Matter is a realistic hardcore shooter (both PvPvE and PvP modes will be available) with authentic weapons and equipment, set in a strange chaotic world inspired by SCP. Objects from other timelines can be randomly transferred by active matter into quantum-unstable zones, allowing players at their safe point base to copy items from these other timelines. Active Matter’s arsenal is based on real military technology and tactics, as war seems to be the only constant across the multiverse.”

A growing genre
This title seems to be the latest addition in a growing genre of games where players are either trapped in time loops, like Death Loop, or reality-altering circumstances similar to the Alan Wake/Control universe. Other titles that include alternate reality/dimension game mechanics are The Medium, INDUSTRIA, Atomic Heart, and the upcoming steampunk-inspired Clockwork Revolution,

Join Discussion →I always wanted a realistic time loop. Also more meaningless multiplayer slop, just what I wanted for the holidays.
Well, if executed properly, this could be fun. It's not my style, as I think most know I'm into first-person/single-player stuff, but every now and then, a team manages the right mix for a genre. Take Hunt Showdown, for instance. If I'd only seen a description for it, I probably wouldn't have thought much about it, but it did gain a sizable fanbase.
