It’s no longer a secret what most Americans use for their password, as the latest report reveals the Top 200 Most Common Passwords. NordPass has released its 6th edition report of the most commonly used passwords and while worldwide things are not looking good it’s somewhat humorous what many in the U.S. have chosen to settle upon as their No. 1 go-to. NordPass has collaborated with NordStellar to compile the new reports which include not only the top 200, that can be selected for either global data or by country, as well as a new most popular corporate password list. Regardless of what kind of user, if your password is on either of these lists it’s probably a good idea to change it, or them, asap.
Per NordPass:
- “It’s our sixth year—this time, in collaboration with NordStellar—analyzing people’s password habits, and guess what? They’re still really bad.”
The reports used 2.5TB of data taken from publicly available sources, including data from the dark web, and spanned 44 countries. The researchers clarified that none of the data was purchased. Data leaks from malware and other sources were also used, but analysis of leaked email addresses was used to determine corporate vs. personal information. It’s no longer a secret that “secret” is the #1 most commonly used password in the U.S. with over 328K users opting for it, and at 2nd place, far too many are still using “123456” with over 260K reported users. Sadly enough, none of the top 10 most used passwords are new in terms of what people have already been told not to use.
