MSI has published another blog post on its official website, and this time, it’s about how iGPUs—according to the company—are now as good as discrete GPUs. The post, which comes from an Ivan Chen, includes benchmarks that show how some of the latest iGPUs from Intel and AMD, including the Arc 140v and Radeon 890m, provide notably higher performance in categories that include gaming and video editing versus entry-level discrete GPUs. See below for the comparisons from MSI, which goes on to advertise some of its next-gen AI+ PCs.

Both of the iGPU outperforms the dGPU on Video Editing and Gaming. Here’s the real-world test on premier pro, the result shows up to 32% faster compared to entry level dGPU. For gaming, tested with Cyberpunk 2077, the result shows both iGPU can reach higher FPS compered to entry level dGPU with much lower power consumption.

That's exactly it. The unnamed "Entry level dGPU" is a mystery. What - exactly - are they considering an "entry level dGPU"?

The lowest end discrete GPU AMD sells in their current generation, the non-Xt Radeon RX 7600, is is like 3x-4x as fast as the Radeon 890M iGPU in most benchmarks I have seen.

You'd probably have to go back to the previous gen Radeon 6400 to get discrete GPU performance that low.

Sometimes I wish "marketing" as a discipline were illegal. It should be renamed "professional lying by omission, and often even without omission".

I know no one here is going to fall for this shit, but you just know this is going to result in some poor kid who is either a beginner, or whose parents are making the purchasing decisions winding up with a wholly inadequate laptop as a "gaming PC" and being miserable, and feeling cheated out of their money.

And they would be right. This is worst of the worst level false advertising. Someone should sue them on principle for being twats.

From 10 years ago? Sure. Like 1060 / rx580 levels?
