Tencent and Intel have partnered to create an interesting gaming handheld utilizing a Lunar Lake APU and 3D technology. The 3D One debuted at an Intel event in China sporting an 11-inch 3D 120 Hz display with eye-tracking technology. The prototype uses an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor with four performance cores and four efficient cores that have a max clock speed of 4.8 GHz. The Intel Core Ultra 7 258V is said to be up to 2x faster than most other current gaming handhelds that feature AMD APUs and its graphics are based on Intel’s Xe2-LPG architecture. However, it does use slightly more power at 12W vs. 8-9W than its tested competitors.
Per Wu Dan, GM of Tencent Games (via IT Home):
“There have been many great technological changes in the history of game graphics technology, from 3D rendering to real-time ray tracing, and the pictures are becoming more and more realistic. If two-dimensional images can be converted into three-dimensional stereoscopic presentation, the visual experience will reach a whole new level.
Relying on our past technical accumulation, we have developed this exploratory naked-eye 3D game handheld.”
Other Specifications:
Other details for the 3D One prototype include that the display is made with a TN LCD 2.5K (2560×1440) panel a “fast” 1 TB SSD (potentially PCIe Gen5) drive and 32 GB LPDDR5X 8533 MT/s memory. The 3D One’s controllers are removable, similar to the Nintendo Switch and some other gaming handhelds, allowing players to set the display on a surface and sit back or instead pair a keyboard to it. The 3D One was designed by Tencent and Intel provided technical support. It was not said which operating system the gaming handheld was using but it is likely Windows 11 or a custom Linux distro.
In terms of battery and charging the 3D One is said to feature a massive battery that supports up to 100W charging capability. As impressive as that sounds, it would be needed for such a large display and other system specs. As far as ports go, both USB Type-A and Type-C were spotted (via PCGamesN). Its graphics solution does support DP 2.1 UHBR20 and HDMI 2.1 but it is not known if either of these are included (although it almost appears to have an HDMI port in the following video) or if the Type-C ports are used for display and/or charging.
VideoCardz has imported the promo video for the 3D One over to YouTube making it easier for those outside of China to view.
