The mid-range battle between AMD and NVIDIA is heating up. Just a day after the latter’s GeForce RTX 2060 price cut, HKEPC is reporting that AMD has prepared a new vBIOs for its recently unveiled Radeon RX 5600 XT graphics card. The software improves the GPU substantially, bringing it closer to the performance level of NVIDIA’s ray-tracing enabled candidate.

AMD hasn’t confirmed the vBIOs yet, but it appears to be real based on recent changes that VideoCardz spotted on SAPPHIRE’s PULSE Radeon RX 5600 XT 6 GB product page. The SKU’s original 1560 MHz game clock and 1620 MHz boost clock have been updated to 1615 MHz and 1750 MHz, respectively.

The memory has also been updated to 14 Gbps, a 15% improvement over the original 12 Gbps specification. Power consumption has risen by 10 W (160 W vs. 150 W), however.

There’s a minute possibility that this refined vBIOS was planned since the very beginning, but many enthusiasts seem convinced that this is AMD’s eleventh-hour attempt to bring the Radeon RX 5600 XT’s performance closer in line with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 2060. That’s a sensible move, being that green team’s option is only $30 cheaper now.
