Far Cry 7, the next mainline installment of Ubisoft’s open-world first-person shooter franchise, will feature several similarities with Far Cry 5, the 2018 title that took players to the fictional location of Hope County in Montana in a fight against a doomsday cult led by “The Father” Joseph Seed, according to alleged plot details that have been leaked for the game. From a post on the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit:
The plot seems to revolve around a wealthy family called the Bennets: Layla, Dax, Brie, Christian, Henry, and Krista. The family members engage in a power struggle similar to the series Succession. One of the villains is named Ian Duncan, described as a “conspiracy theorist with an army of believers” and an “envy of the wealthy elite and the power they wield.”
The leaker goes on to suggest that Far Cry 7 may take place in New England, the region in the Northeastern U.S. that comprises Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont:
Alongside these characters are two others who appear to be secondary: John Mackay and a doctor named Safna Kazan. Another detail is that New England is mentioned several times in the descriptions, suggesting this could be the setting.
“Welcome to Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time,” reads a description for Far Cry 6, the latest installment of the franchise that Ubisoft launched in October 2021. “As the dictator of Yara, Antón Castillo is intent on restoring his nation to its former glory by any means necessary, with his son, Diego, following in his bloody footsteps. Their oppressive rule has ignited a revolution.”
“Play as Dani Rojas, a local Yaran, as you fight alongside a modern-day guerrilla revolution to liberate Yara. Play the full game solo or with a friend in co-op,” it continues. “Explore jungles, beaches, and cities on foot, horseback, or in a wide variety of vehicles including boats and Jet Skis as you fight against Castillo’s regime in the most expansive Far Cry to date.”
Castillo is played by American actor Giancarlo Esposito, who recently appeared as villain Seth Voelker/Sidewinder in Marvel Studios’ latest film, Captain America: New World Order, which stars Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford.
