MicroProse has partnered with Adamant Studios to create a new procedurally generated RPG which harkens to the good old days of PC gaming. D&D veteran and Greyhawk co-creator Rob Kuntz has been brought on board to create an immersive fantasy world featuring a score by Neverwinter Nights composer Kevin Manthei. Knights of Frontier Valley is being built by Martin Menzel using a custom engine.

“Frontier Valley immediately spoke to me because it captures what I loved about the earliest days of D&D — the thrill of discovery, a world that breathes on its own, and the feeling that every decision matters. This is a world that evolves with the players,” said Kuntz. “This is a world that breathes, challenges, and reacts. Knights of Frontier Valley isn’t just a game – it’s an adventure in the truest sense.”

The developers point out that Knights of Frontier Valley does not feature any AI art and that its visuals are all hand-drawn. The game has been designed to be replayed with its procedurally generated world that aims to ensure gamers have unique experiences each playthrough with changing maps, items, and characters. A release date has not yet been announced, but it will be available on Steam for PCs.

“Having Rob Kuntz lend his creative vision to Knights of Frontier Valley is nothing short of historic,This is a designer whose fingerprints are on the very foundation of tabletop role-playing. Fans of Dungeons & Dragons, classic CRPGs, and deep strategic role-playing should take notice – this is a game built for you.”

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
