Rockstar Games has released another trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI and revealed that the upcoming game will feature two protagonists. Games that allow players to switch characters throughout a campaign are nothing new and the GTA has done it in past games so it shouldn’t come as a shock that Rockstar has chosen to continue that storytelling mechanism but this time around it appears the two primary roles are a couple who may or may not be the best for each other. Other characters introduced include a best-bud who probably spends way too much time on the computer, someone who built themself up from the streets to become the big shark in their pond, a street hustler turned music mogul, a hip-hop hoping to make it big no matter what the costs are, an experienced bank robber who’s always on the hunt for the next biggest prize, and a seasoned drug runner that’s befriended one of the main characters.

Jason and Lucia

Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are the two characters who have been featured in the majority of Grand Theft Auto VI‘s promotional materials thus far, and are set to be dual protagonists for its story. Like most of those in any GTA game, each has survived a rough childhood and is trying to make changes in their lives. Jason started life, also like many in the franchise, surrounded by shady individuals, but attempted to escape by enrolling in the military and then returned to what was familiar by gaining employment with various drug runners. Lucia came from Liberty City to try and make her way, but after a bad turn of events ended up in prison. Desperate to make her dreams come true, she’ll stop at nothing to see her plans succeed, but that may not end in the best of ways for either of them.

Cal and Boobie

Cal Hampton is Jason’s best bud, who perhaps spends too much time entertaining thoughts about various conspiracy theories but is also adept at getting the inside word about what the local authorities are up to. Boobie Ike however could be a good ally, or worst enemy. Having grown up on the streets of Vice City, he’s learned how to utilize his gangster past to form an empire of legal businesses, which include real estate ventures, strip clubs, and a private recording studio.

Dre’Quan Priest and Real Dimez

Dre’Quan Priest is no man of the cloth but is perhaps neither as hard around the edges as his business associate Boobie Ike. Dre’Quan has been working to refine his skill set in creating a record label and fulfill a lifelong dream of making music, and the rapping duo Real Dimez could be his ticket to the big leagues. Bae-Luxe and Roxy are two high school friends who managed to get a hit single early on but ended up in trouble and are now attempting to make it big.

Raul and Brian

Raul Baustista has experience behind him as a professional bank robber. Raul is always on the hunt for the next big heist, and who’s crew must always be prepared to adapt to the unexpected. Brian Heder is a veteran drug runner with years of experience who will do what it takes, whether it be via land, sea, or air. He’s taken Jason under his wing and, along with his 3rd wife is enjoys a nice drink while watching a sunset.

Welcome to Leonidas

In typical Rockstar fashion, whether it be with the Red Dead Redemption franchise or GTA, each game has a familiar set of locales that have been renamed. Vice City is, of course, Miami, and Leonidas is more or less Florida. Rockstar has put together a collection of postcards promoting Leonidas for potential travelers. From Vice City to the Leonida Keys, or the shipping metros of Port Gellhorn and Ambrosia, or nature treks in Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga, there’s plenty to experience and explore.

Rockstar recently announced that the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI has been pushed back to May 26, 2026, when it will launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There’s no word yet on a PC version, but if it follows the previous launch cycle for GTA V, it may arrive in 2028, but PC gamers are hoping to see it sooner.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
