This will be our first look at an ORICO device, but ORICO is well known for its storage-based consumer and enterprise products, in many categories for diverse use cases. ORICO was founded in 2009 and focuses on data storage and charging solutions. ORICO’s devices range from internal and external SSDs, Portable SSDs, NAS, multiple types of HDD and SSD docking stations, hybrid storage devices, hubs, cables, and smart power strips and adapters.
Under ORICO’s Data Storage category, you will find specifically the Portable SSD (PSSD) section, with many different portable and external SSDs offered, with no less than 56 different models available to fit any need. The K20Mini fits in the category of other 20Gbps external portable SSDs offered, but if you want even faster, ORICO does offer USB4 40Gbps models, such as the Montage 40Gbps series with an interesting look and even Thunderbolt 5 80Gbps options available. The K20Mini (ORICO-K20Mini) is the successor to the K20, which had a larger form factor and similar performance. The K20Mini improves upon the K20 by offering an Ultra-Slim profile, a strong magnetic connection, and comes in two color options, Gold and Silver.
ORICO K20 Mini 1TB Ultra-thin Magnetic Portable SSD

The ORICO K20 Mini 1TB Ultra-thin Magnetic Portable SSD comes in a bright blue box, and on the front, it clearly labels the capacity, the rated ‘up to’ read speed, and the type of connector it uses and interface speed. The back of the box goes into further detail, listing the dimensions, supported systems, and materials. Inside the box is the device, a manual, a magnetic attractor ring in case you don’t have a device with a magnet, and a 5″ (5-inch) long USB-C cable that also has the interface speed labeled.
The cable itself is very unique, with a rubberized flat jacket, with tread that gives it good grip with your fingers, and is very robust and resists being bent out of shape. It does flex quite well, and allows it to wrap around from the back of the phone to the bottom, and is quite malleable, but it also won’t fold in half and crease, with this unique texture and material. The end connectors of the Type-C connectors are also plated for better conductivity. The entire cable seems very high quality. It’s one of the more appealing cables in this regard that we’ve come across.

The dimensions of the ORICO K20 Mini 1TB Ultra-thin Magnetic Portable SSD are: 68mm x 60mm x 7.5mm (2.67″ x 2.36″ x 0.29″). This device is quite small and is sized perfectly to fit on the back of a phone. The key point here is the Ultra-Slim nature, at just 7.5mm, it really is a very thin device and is thinner than a phone. The materials are an aluminum alloy and plastic. The top is entirely made of aluminum alloy and helps dissipate heat for better cooling, and the back is plastic with the magnetic ring. The K20Mini is also very light in weight, weighing 45 grams, much less than a phone.
The ORICO K20 Mini 1TB Ultra-thin Magnetic Portable SSD comes in three different capacities: 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. The model we are testing today is the 1TB. In OS compatibility, it supports Windows, Linux, Mac OS, Android, iOS, iPhone15, and iPhone16. It supports iPhone15 pro, iPhone15 pro max, iPhone15 plus, iPhone15, iPhone16 pro, iPhone16 pro max, iPhone16 plus, iPhone16. On the Android side, it supports Huawei, OPPO, vivo, xiaomi, Honor, Samsung, and other Type-C interface phones. It is also suitable for tablets and laptops, such as iPad Pro 11, iPad Pro 12.9, iPad Air 4/5.
It is also compatible with some cameras with Type-C connectors and external storage support. In this way, it is great for video recording from phones, pictures, and video from other cameras as well. On the video format side of things, the ORICO K20 Mini 1TB Ultra-thin Magnetic Portable SSD can store ProRes 4k30fps video at up to 1 hour on the 512GB model, 2 hours on the 1TB model, and up to 4 hours on the 2TB model.

In the picture above, we have the ORICO K20 Mini 1TB Ultra-thin Magnetic Portable SSD securely connected to an iPhone 16 Plus. The magnetic ring holds very tightly, even through an OtterBox iPhone 16 Plus Defender Series Case. It’s strong and doesn’t budge. The cable easily flexes to wrap around the phone to the back from the bottom, and the length is perfect to fit the phone. We were able to easily save videos and pictures to the device with no trouble at all. It worked out of the box with no configuration needed, and the drive was pre-formatted in exFAT.
